Each summer, the DDTCC hosts a Scottish Dog Show, held in conjunction
with the Highlands of Durham Games, in beautiful Elgin Park, in Uxbridge, Ontario.
The event is an opportunity for the public to meet our Dandie Dinmonts in our club’s famous “cuddling parlour”.
The Scottish Dog show is an exhibition of the thirteen Scottish breeds of dogs. The thirteen breeds eligible to participate are the Bearded Collie, Border Collie, Cairn Terrier, Rough Collie, Smooth Collie, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Golden Retriever, Gordon Setter, Scottish Deerhound, Scottish Terrier, Shetland Sheepdog, Skye Terrier, and West Highland White Terrier.
There are scheduled “shows” several times a day, when all the Scottish breeds enter the big ring and each breed is individually introduced to the public by the announcer. After each show, the various breeds can be found in the breeders’ village that surrounds the show ring.
Although the Dandie is one of the rarest breeds of Terrier, the event is so well attended by our club members that there are usually more Dandies than any other breed! All the Dandies welcome an opportunity to be cuddled in our cuddling parlour.
The Scottish Dog Show is one of many events at the Highlands of Durham Games that celebrates all things Scottish. This includes Scottish dancing, Highland piping, caber tossing and other Scottish games, Celtic entertainment, delicious foods (including Haggis!) and all things that stir the Scottish spirit. There are Highland Cattle shows, Aberdeen Anguses, Clydesdales, Falconry, plus continuous entertainment and a beer garden.
The 2008 dates for the Scottish Dog Show (featuring the Dandie Dinmont) are Saturday July 26 and Sunday, July 27. Come and cuddle a Dandie!
